5 BIG Premier League talking points: Chelsea’s slide continues

Premier League matchweek 6 produced 30 goals, 3 draws and 4 impressive away wins. Here’s a recap of the major talking points, with all numerical stats via SkySportsStatto.
The Toffees are finally up and running
Everton had won just twice in 16 league matches prior to their win at Brentford. To say these 3 points were much-needed is an understatement. Abdoulaye Doucouré again showed off his goalscoring capabilities, bagging his 7th league strike in his last 16 appearances.
Foden scores early goal-of-the-season contender
Manchester City were efficient in their 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, playing the entire second half with 10 men after Rodri’s dismissal. Prior to that, Phil Foden rounded off a sumptuous 46-pass move for the opener to help underline their obvious title credentials.
All 3 promoted sides in the drop zone
Life back in the top flight is proving difficult for Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United. Rob Edwards’ Luton and Vincent Kompany’s Clarets have just a single point apiece after 5 rounds. After Sheffield United’s 8-0 mauling at home to Newcastle, they’re now rock-bottom of the division by virtue of an inferior goal difference, and they’ve played an extra game.
Son loves the North London Derby
Bukayo Saka scored from the penalty spot on his 86th consecutive Premier League appearance but it wasn’t enough to give the Gunners all 3 points against North London rivals Tottenham.
Spurs twice pegged Mikel Arteta’s men back through a brace from skipper Son Heung-min. Son now has 150 goals in Tottenham’s colours, the 6th player in their history to hit the landmark, and he’s got 6 goals and 2 assists in his last 11 appearances against Arsenal.
Brighton are buzzing
Brighton moved up to third with their 3-1 win over Bournemouth. The Seagulls have now scored in 22 consecutive EPL outings and they’ve got 18 league goals this season, 2 more than any other team.
Chelsea, in contrast, have failed to score in 13 separate Premier League matches in 2023. They’re already 13 points off the summit after 6 matches this term after a 0-1 defeat against Aston Villa.
Liverpool’s 3-1 win over West Ham extended their unbeaten run in the league to 17 matches, with Mo Salah bagging his 10th career goal against the Hammers.
What happened elsewhere in Europe?
Harry Kane scored a hat-trick for Bayern Munich as they demolished Bochum 7-0. Kane now has 7 goals in 5 Bundesliga games. In Italy, Inter preserved their perfect Serie A start with a 1-0 win at Empoli. Inter and Man City are the only 2 teams left in Europe’s top 5 leagues with 100% records.
Atlético Madrid claimed local bragging rights with a 3-1 win over previously perfect Real Madrid. Things are tight at the top in LaLiga with just a point separating Barcelona, surprise package Girona and Real in the top 3 after 6 rounds.
